Sunday Morning Kitchen and Bath Celebrates Four Remodeler of the Year Awards for Design Excellence

For most people, Thursday, Nov. 13, was just another ordinary evening. For our very own Marta Layton, it was the culmination of two years of hard work, sacrifice, and bringing dream kitchen and bath designs to life.

Marta, a certified kitchen and bath designer and local business owner who has already secured numerous honors for her stunning renovation design work, added to her collection in a big way when she secured four Remodeler of the Year awards from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, North Texas Chapter. The chapter’s annual gala celebrates high-quality projects from across the nation, and Marta’s work stood out as the best despite being up against significantly larger firms boasting up to 30 years of expertise.

“I actually had won four similar awards before that night, but it feels different when you are not winning them for your employer,” Marta said. “When the name on the plaque is something you own 100%, something you created from scratch through sheer power of will and belief, it means so much more. This was my first year submitting locally, and I couldn’t be happier.”

Marta’s awards were in the following categories: Kitchen $100K, Kitchen $100 to $150K, Bathroom $100K, and Entire Home $250 to $500K. All but two of those projects were completed for homeowners in Flower Mound.

Kitchen $50,000 - $100,000

The galley kitchen was not only expanded to add much-deserved space but also redesigned with modern finishes that are to die for. This includes custom cabinetry and spacious countertops. But Marta’s work wasn’t limited to the kitchen. This comprehensive renovation project also included transforming a dated, confined home layout into a bright, open-concept living space with a brand new dining room and living area. The previously secluded dining room was opened to create a natural flow into the kitchen and living areas, making it an ideal spot for future gatherings with friends and family. The living room now has a sleek new fireplace, and throughout the home, she prioritized enhancing natural light, expanding room functionality, and introducing clean, contemporary design elements.

Kitchen $100,000 - $150,000

The homeowner’s passion for baking inspired this jaw-dropping kitchen transformation. The original space was dark, cramped, and poorly laid out—so much so that the open dishwasher blocked access to the rest of the room. Marta thoughtfully reimagined the space from the ground up, including a two-level island with integrated storage, integrated dishwasher panels, a tip-out sink drawer, and double trash pullouts with side storage. Pantry cabinets and drawers include an oversized utensil organizer, pull-out spice racks, and even dual pull-out step stools. The kitchen also includes an induction cooktop, sleek refrigerator, and convection double oven—paired with white quartz counters, brushed gold hardware, and soft blue-green cabinetry.

Bathroom $70,000 - $100,000

This modern luxury bathroom remodel is highlighted by a black soaking tub and a curbless walk-in shower finished with oversized tile, a dramatic LED-lit niche, and a structured ceiling with custom lighting above the shower. The LED lighting is fully adjustable and color-changing, offering flexible ambiance and a modern edge. A built-in grooming drawer adds personalized storage, while layered lighting—from a striking starburst chandelier to glass pendant lights—brings warmth and visual interest. Wall-mounted mirrors cleverly conceal medicine cabinets with built-in outlets, combining clean lines with smart functionality. A glass block window filters natural light into the space without sacrificing privacy, blending timeless texture with modern contrast.

Entire Home $250,000 - $500,000

This project truly shows Marta’s range as a certified designer. The before-and-after floor plans and 3D renderings highlight an expanded kitchen layout, reconfigured primary bathroom, and updated family room and office. The project began with removing a key structural wall to open up the kitchen, eliminating three windows (including one in the kitchen, where the new hood now serves as a focal point), and adding a window in the Jack-and-Jill bath to improve natural light. The master bath has a new walk-in closet, and the rest of the home has new flooring and fresh paint, creating a modern feel.

A Dream Job Come True—And Awards as the Cherries on Top!

In just two years, Sunday Morning Kitchen and Bath has become the go-to independent designer for homeowners throughout Denton County. All too often, homeowners who want to go beyond a few surface changes here and there to truly reimagine their kitchen or bathroom don’t start their dream experience because they are overwhelmed by where to begin, who to trust, and how to turn their ideas into a cohesive design. With Marta, they get an independent designer who is not only local but also skilled in creating technical floor plans, 3D renderings, and video walk-throughs that bring each project to life.

For the homeowner, this means clarity at every step, fewer surprises during construction, and a beautifully designed space that reflects their lifestyle and taste. Marta could have tried to do all of this while working for someone else. But she knew she deserved more.

“I started this business out of desperation,” Marta said. “I was depressed by working remotely from home, and I wasn’t being the best mom for my kids. I remember putting together a basic Facebook post and putting it on the Flower Mound Moms and More page … I asked if anyone might be interested in my services, and I can’t tell you how many people reached out almost immediately.”

She added, “I am forever grateful to all the homeowners who trusted me, the little new girl in town—especially when I first started out.”
