Transforming a Dated Kitchen into a Contemporary Masterpiece
A Stunning Modern Kitchen for World Travelers
Our customers, the original owners of their Ashburn home built in the mid-1990s, sought a dramatic transformation of their dark and dated kitchen. As extensive world travelers and architecture enthusiasts, they desired a modern look with distinctive contemporary elements while incorporating the highest quality natural materials, such as walnut cabinets and natural stone. The original kitchen layout no longer fulfilled their needs, offering no seating area and insufficient storage. They longed for a massive center island for family pizza and pasta making nights, a better connection between their family room and kitchen, and abundant seating options. Additionally, they wanted a way to dramatically showcase their wine collection.
Key Project Highlights
The result of this collaborative process is a stunning transformation and better use of space. The massive center island countertop, as well as all full-height stone backsplashes, are Taj Mahal Quartzite. Perimeter tops are practical and maintenance-free CaesarStone Haze. Cabinets now extend to the ceiling, providing better storage. The refrigerator was swapped with the ovens, and the cooktop moved to the perimeter to allow for a much larger island countertop with a custom wood top at the end.
Massive Center Island
Featuring Taj Mahal Quartzite, the center island is perfect for family gatherings and culinary activities, complemented by a custom wood top at one end.
Enhanced Storage
Cabinets now extend to the ceiling, offering ample storage. Special features include pullouts that optimize storage between the new gas and induction cooktops, and lower-level spacers for plates and bowls storage in the dishwasher area.
Revised Layout
The refrigerator was swapped with the ovens, and the cooktop was moved to the perimeter, allowing for a much larger island countertop.
New Addition
An addition was created just off the kitchen from the original patio. Retractable windows were added to the kitchen wall that can remain closed or fully open to the new space.
Bar Area/Butler's Pantry
Utilizing the same beautiful materials as the kitchen, the bar area features open shelving to showcase the clients’ liquor collection.
Showcasing Wine Collection
The kitchen now includes a dramatic display area for the homeowners’ wine collection, seamlessly integrated into the design.
