As we’ve said many times before, one of the best things about our job is that we get to help homeowners make sense of the wonderful yet scattered remodeling ideas and images they have in their heads and turn them into reality. More often than not, they are stepping into this type of project for the very first time and rely on us to guide them. But recently, we had a unique opportunity to help a client who already understood the craft, the challenges, and the level of detail required to create a truly beautiful space.
The only problem was that even though she was a design pro herself, it was HER home. She was too close to it and instead chose to hire Sunday Morning Kitchen and Bath to take the reins—especially for space planning and floorplan changes.
A Modern Manor: Making an Already Beautiful Home Uniquely Theirs
This was a newly purchased home in the area that needed significant work before the clients were ready to move in. They purchased it for its desirable location and available square footage. All that they needed to do next was make it uniquely theirs. That’s where Sunday Morning Kitchen and Bath stepped in—transforming a segmented and disconnected layout into a sophisticated open-concept floor plan.
As you can see from the photos, we overcame this by eliminating a walkway and a powder room. More importantly, we stole quite a bit of square footage from their oversized garage and relocated the garage door to create a bigger walk-in pantry and add more room to the family room. We have also significantly changed the footprint of the primary bathroom.
Using her talents in design and remodeling, the client contributed some really cool ideas, including a hidden bookcase door within the entryway fireplace room. Another cool feature you don’t see every day is that we created two statement fireplace walls as focal points.
Overall, the structural redesign achieved several crucial objectives:
- Making better use of available square footage
- Removing major barriers, including kitchen walls, dining room columns, and restrictive hallways
- Improve the home’s overall functionality
- Optimize flow throughout the home
- Enhance storage and utility space
- Smoother transitions between the spa bathroom and the luxury closet
- Balance high-end style with modern, everyday functionality
